Tanya Weston

Tanya practices in all areas of intellectual property law. Tanya’s patent practice includes the prosecution of patents in a broad range of technologies, and counselling clients on patent related legal issues including inventorship, ownership, entitlement and patent formalities. In addition to her patent expertise, Tanya’s practice involves the legal and litigation aspects relating to industrial design, trade-mark and copyright matters.

Tanya is a member of the firm’s Patented Medicines (Notice of Compliance) Working Group and regularly advises clients on issues relating to the regulatory approval, data protection/market exclusivity and the pricing of pharmaceuticals and biologics.

Tanya is a regular lecturer at the University of Ottawa, Faculty of Common Law, on issues related to the ownership of human tissues, the Patented Medicines Price Review Board and Canada’s Access to Medicines Regime as part of a larger course on intellectual property law as it relates to biotechnology and pharmaceuticals.

Prior to joining MBM, Tanya worked as an epidemiologist at a pharmaceutical research unit in the United Kingdom, where she conducted drug safety and efficacy studies. Through her position as a Policy Analyst for Health Canada, Tanya worked on regulatory amendments to the Food & Drug Regulations. While completing her law degree, Tanya continued to work at Health Canada on matters relating to class action litigation involving therapeutic products, biologics and medical devices.

Tanya is a Registered Canadian Trade-mark Agent.
