David Lotimer


David’s intellectual property practice mainly focuses on patent drafting, filing and prosecution as well as trademarks filing and prosecution. He also has experience with copyrights and intellectual property transaction work, including searches and opinions. David's experience also extends to drafting and negotiating licensing and royalty agreements, intellectual property ownership agreements, software terms of use agreements, and settlement agreements.

With this broad intellectual property practice as his foundation, David works with entrepreneurs to support their business start-ups and to help them manage their intellectual property assets. He understands the unique support that entrepreneurs need to build up their businesses and sustain growth. Consideration and understanding of intellectual property rights and protection is integral to the long-term success of any start-up and should be integrated at the early stages of the business.

David was called to the Ontario Bar, and was also admitted as a lawyer of the Supreme Court of New South Wales, Australia. He has a background in Chemical Engineering focused on Biomedical Materials Science and worked in Newfoundland as a field biologist. He has extensive legal work experience in both Canada and Australia. In Canada, he worked at a large corporate law firm and a securities litigation boutique in Toronto. In Australia, he worked with the Administrative Appeals Tribunal and in-house counsel at a software development company. David also worked at various community legal centres in both Canada and Australia.

David is truly interested in the impact of technology within the natural world. In his spare time, he is an avid musician and self-proclaimed boardsman who enjoys snowboarding, surfing, and skateboarding.
