Osman Ismaili

Osman is a patent lawyer at MBM's Ottawa office.
After obtaining his degree in Chemical Physics from the University of Waterloo, Osman went on to study law at the University of Leicester in the UK. As a law student, Osman worked in the University of Leicester’s Enterprise and Business Development Office, where he assisted with the patent process and commercialization of the institution’s research related innovations.
Upon returning to Canada, he advanced his legal studies at Osgoode Hall Law School, where he earned his Master of Laws specializing in intellectual property and corporate/commercial law.
As a lawyer, Osman works with startup clients and SMEs, assisting them with their intellectual property needs. Having launched and ran a successful business himself, Osman is aware of the many challenges that come part and parcel with a budding enterprise.
Osman also assists with patent and trademark prosecution. Osman’s patent interests cover a broad spectrum of subject matter ranging from simple engineering, through materials science, to areas of information technology.
Osman’s practice further includes intellectual property licensing and assignment agreements, patentability, infringement and freedom-to-operate opinions, end-user license agreements, and select corporate-related services. Osman also supports clients on contentious matters regarding trademark and patent disputes.
