Dr. Jennifer Arnold
Jennifer Arnold’s practice
focuses on the drafting and prosecution of pharmaceutical,
biotechnology, cell biology and molecular biology patent
applications in Canada and around the world. She has an
extensive research background in pharmacology and neuroscience
with a focus on cell to cell signalling and signal transduction
cascades which are involved in multiple disease states
including cancer, epilepsy, neurodegenerative disorders,
mental illness and drug addiction. Jennifer also has
experience in the area of novel drug development and testing,
regulatory affairs and GLP.
Jennifer’s graduate work
focused on the underlying neurochemical changes associated
with mental illness. Her doctoral research dealt with drug
addiction, specifically the effects of cocaine and heroin on
cell to cell communication in multiple regions of the rat
brain. These cellular changes were mapped during both the
active phase of drug use and during withdrawal. Additional
projects included examination of cell to cell communication in
rat brains pre, during and post epileptic seizure and in human
brain biopsies diagnosed with neurodegenerative conditions.
Prior to joining MBM,
Jennifer worked as a lecturer at the University of Ottawa,
Department of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Immunology,
teaching Metabolism and Signal Transduction. Following
completion of two postdoctoral NSERC fellowships, Jennifer
became Director of Preclinical Drug Development for a small
pharmaceutical company and was responsible for all cell
culture and animal testing of the drug pipeline in preparation
for preclinical trials and regulatory submission.
Jennifer’s research has
appeared in several peer reviewed journals including the
European Journal of Neuroscience, Journal of Neurobiology and
in Molecular Carcinogenesis and she has two patents in her
name. She has presented her research at numerous national and
international conferences and has won two international and
one national research award.
