Dr. Heather Gallant
Heather practices in all areas of intellectual property law, including trademarks, patent drafting and prosecution, due diligence and formalities, with a particular focus on litigation. Heather also negotiates and drafts agreements related to intellectual property rights and activities. She is a member of the firm’s Patented Medicines (Notice of Compliance) working group.
Heather’s doctoral research and research fellowship focused on how certain immunosuppressive drugs are broken down and the physiological importance of drug metabolism. This approach considers the direct activity and deleterious side effects of each drug and its metabolites. Her research experience was generally related to pharmaceutical toxicology, and includes therapeutic drug monitoring, clinical and experimental pharmacokinetic modelling, identification and characterization of novel drug metabolites, in vitro toxicological techniques and drug receptor/target affinity studies. Heather also qualified as a Medical Laboratory Technologist in Canada and a Medical Technologist in the US in the areas of hematology, clinical chemistry, medical microbiology and histopathology.
Prior to law school and joining MBM, Heather worked for several years in the field of technology transfer at two Canadian Universities. Heather has experience with research funding structures and innovation policy in Canada.
Heather authored and co-authored several scientific publications and presented on scientific and technology transfer related topics at national and international symposia.
